So unless you’ve been living under a rather large rock, you’ll know that there’s a general election taking place tomorrow.
I don’t want this space to just be sunshine and rainbows (and let’s face it, a lot of lipstick). I’m aware that subjects like this could potentially affect future work with brands, but I’m finding it increasingly harder to stay neutral for the sake of personal gain. Voting is extremely important, and so is my use of voice on a platform where I’m fortunate enough to be able to access thousands of people.
I feel it would be a real shame to not open up a dialogue here – politics affect everyone, no matter how big or small. Hopefully you will have registered to vote, and are planning a trip to your local polling station tomorrow. After all, women fought and lost their lives to achieve voting equality.

Now, I’m not going to tell you to vote for a certain party (though I think it’s pretty clear from my Twitter to see which side I’m on..), and I realise I am most likely preaching to the converted here, but it’s not as simple as just voting for the party that suits you comfortably anymore. We need to put ourselves in the shoes of others – the most vulnerable in our society are being ignored. Our public services are in dire need of funding; what with the British Red Cross warning of a humanitarian crisis within the NHS mere months ago, teachers asking for monetary help from parents, almost 20,000 less police on the streets since 2010 and money filtering into questionable hands, all signs point to the fact that something has to give. All of the above sounds harsh, but there’s just no sugarcoating it.
To make things easier, you can take an blind quiz here – it asks for your stances on numerous topics, from abortion to drug laws, and the whole thing takes about 20 minutes from start to finish. Slightly less time-consuming is this site, which also has information on tactical voting and properly spoiling your ballot should you so wish.
Complacency and voters’ apathy only helps to maintain the status quo. The media has done an amazing job of making the opposition look like a complete joke in recent months, like any vote against the current government is a waste of time. I’ll say it till I’m blue in the face: your voice matters. I beg you use it.
